Historic Center of Pitigliano

Even from a distance, you can see the golden-brown hues of Pitigliano’s buildings, perched on a steep tuff cliff and forming a striking color contrast with the deep green of the surrounding woods. This picturesque village, with its winding alleys and medieval architecture, enchants visitors from all over the world. It is no coincidence that Pitigliano is part of the “Most Beautiful Villages of Italy” circuit, which highlights the historical, artistic, and cultural heritage of these unique places.

Known as the “city of tuff,” Pitigliano is also famous for its historic Jewish community, which has lived here since the 16th century. For this reason, it is often called the “Little Jerusalem” of the Tuscan Maremma. Jewish culture is still very much alive here, especially when visiting the old ghetto along Via Zuccarelli. This historic neighborhood is home to a synagogue dating back to 1598 and an interesting Jewish museum, where you can visit a ritual ablution room, a cellar, a kosher butcher shop, and an old oven.
